Fairfax County is considering a redistricting change (“Attendance Island – Scenario 1”) that would reassign hundreds of students from Flint Hill Elementary to Oakton Elementary. This proposal makes no sense, and now is the time to speak up. The change creates major disruption with no clear benefit. 

Why This Change Hurts Our Kids, Not Helps:

⚠️ Huge disruption for hundreds of families and several neighborhoods
❌ No clear benefit: No time saved, no fewer buses, no operational improvements
🗺️ It’s just a line on a map – not a solution to any real problem
🧭 Goes against the county’s own guiding principles (8130)
🔀 Keeps split feeders (like Oakton Elementary) in place
🏡 No community support for the change – families on the “island” don’t see an issue

Nothing is final yet! Proposals are still being reviewed, and starting in July 2025, there will be additional data analysis and adjustments made based on initial community feedback. NOW is the time to make your voice heard! 

Our kids belong at Flint Hill — and we have to speak up to keep it that way!
