I want to share that I have deaf/hard of hearing kids, I want to mentioned that they ride bus over 1 hour to school and coming home, not 45 mins for some of those other kids. That will disrupt our work and home schedules and limited time for my kids to be able to participate in sports and activities after school close to home.
I strongly oppose the proposed 9:50 a.m. start time for elementary schools. Such a late start creates significant challenges for working families who rely on earlier school hours to align with standard work schedules. It also severely limits students’ ability to participate in after-school activities, many of which are essential for their social, emotional, and physical development. This proposal does not reflect the realities that most families face. If board members had to navigate this schedule with their own children, it's unlikely this would even be considered a viable option.
The impact of this affects hundreds of thousands of students and families. It’s important to build a strong foundation for students to fall back on as they face challenges and move forward in life. Without accountability, it sends the wrong message that ethics and living a life of integrity aren’t important. This will be remembered for decades.
I graduated from Fairfax High School in 1978. I played sports when I was at FHS. It is critical that FCPS allows for an independent investigation and holds people accountable, including firing people who were not honest and didn’t follow the rules.
If you continue to allow this behavior there will not be any fairness in any FCPS sport.
Everyone knows that families do not pick up and incur the cost of moving to play under the same coach for a couple of years. And if a family does follow a coach, their children should not be alloed to play the same sport the coach coaches for 1-2 seasons. Parents would think twice before transferring if their kids were ineligible for 1-2 years.
You don’t allow kids to go to different schools to improve their academic chances, why would you let them do it for athletics?
If you don’t control this now, you will never get control of it.
Recruiting in FCPS high schools has never been allowed or tolerated.
Does the school board or superintendent really think 14 of the coaches kids transfer by coincidence? NOT. We know it’s not a coincidence so you can stop trying to cover it up.
You don’t allow kids to lie, why is it okay for the adults involved to lie. You make kids follow the rules, why don’t the adults have to follow the rules.
Do the right thing.
