Superintendent Submits Corrective Action Memo Parents Call It A Word Salad

The article describes a report presented by the superintendent in response to this motion that was approved at the December 5 board meeting:

“Based on the findings of this examination, I move to direct the Superintendent to work with the Governance Committee to identify potential updates to related policies, including but not limited to Policy 1106, Policy 1105 and Policy 1107 and bring those potential policy update suggestions to the Governance Committee to review and to send recommendations to the School Board for consideration and a vote as needed.”

Reid’s report assumes that the systemic failures revealed by the Hayfield scandal occurred due to oversight or procedural failures, without addressing why no action was taken when the oversights and failures became evident. Her report fails to explain the coverups and lack of response once the issues were identified.

At the December 5th meeting, board members unanimously approved this motion: 

Main Motion #1 (as amended): I move that the School Board engage an external law firm that has not performed any work for FCPS or the Superintendent in the last 10 years to conduct a comprehensive and independent examination (to include but not limited to student athlete transfers and eligibility practices) for all high school athletics across FCPS schools, starting with a examination of Hayfield High School, and to report its findings and make recommendations to the School Board and Superintendent.

The Dec 19 board meeting did not include a report on this motion. I am curious to hear what their progress has been. If you are also curious, it could be worth a note to the school board, to make sure it is not forgotten. You can contact the school board, here.
