Altadena wants to come back to its rich diversity. But, allowing cash sales to those who have no true investment in this community, while our long term renters are unable to afford to stay in their beloved community, is WRONG….

Altadena has suffered enough by losing our homes. Don’t let us lose our town to developers

As a former resident of Altadena and a proud alumnus of John Muir High School, I have witnessed the strong sense of community and resilience that defines this area. It is deeply concerning to see corporate interests prioritizing profit over the needs of families and neighborhoods, especially in the wake of disasters that leave our community vulnerable. We must stand together to protect our homes and ensure that recovery efforts focus on the well-being of residents rather than allowing corporate real estate grabs. Let's preserve the integrity of Altadena and support our community's recovery and growth!

I lost my house, my home of 35 yrs, though I've lived in Altadena for 40 yrs. It is where our first house was bought, which was an affordable piece of earth to call our own. It was/is peaceful with large trees engulfing the area, and of course killer views of the hustle and bustle in the nearby cities below. Though I am "displaced" for now, I am determined to rebuild, to return to the town where I raised my children and grandchild. The area is an eclectic town of different house types from small bungalows, designated heritage Jane cottages, to large historic mansions built in the 1890s, and everything in between, but its our piece of serenity; and we wouldn't have it any other way. My mid-century style house wasn't historic per se, but it was mine. I lost a million family photos and heirlooms to a wildfire that seemed to randomly devour everything in its path, but miraculously some structures survived. If I had a genie, I'd wish that those houses that survived hadn't so that the 17 people who died could live. (Maybe selfish, but truly sincere.) There is more than the lost of homes, people's lives and generational homes and wealth were lost. So tragic and devastating. So... Please don't minimize or take for granted our loses for corporate capital gain. Greed, of all types, has raised its ugly head. Corporations' wallets are already fat enough; leave what's left of ours alone!

Tax Payers need competitent people in position in Government to decide on Building technologies that can prevent the LA Fires. I grew up in Altadena and shocked to see what occurred. This should never happen again Regulations need to be approved that help the citizens who pay taxes to have their homes safe from rapid fire and communites protected.

I live in a high fire danger zone and have purchased a Auram 3000 Compressed Earth Block making machine with the goal of eventually building a fire resistant home. Having building codes that allow Compressed Earth Block construction would is absolutely necessary for me.to achieve my goal and I therefore wholeheartedly and adamantly support this petition!

I’ve seen impeccable, dynamic, and stable earthen buildings over the past few years. I believe this construction type could be so so helpful. Especially to folks living outside of more densely populated areas. Being in the line of wildfires, rather than compact residential areas, means there is a great benefit to being prepared with a fire resistant home. I am a resident of Santa Barbara currently but longtime resident of Chico, both of which have been hit hard by climate change driven fires, and so many homes could have stood a chance had they been earthen. As we approach a time that boarders on apocalyptic in regard to natural disasters, I urge our legislators to loosen the grip on traditional building practices. Creativity is a solution to our scariest problems in life. I believe deeply in this method as a means to help people.

We’ve all seen what happened recently in the Southern California fires. What many may not know is that the Palisades Highlands was built with the current recommended fire prevention measures: double pane windows, stucco exterior with greater than one hour of fire rating, non-flammable roofs and enclosed eaves. But when fires of this magnitude are raging at temperatures over 1000° (and in some cases up to 2000° because cast-iron tubs warped and gold rings melted),…wood timber framing is going to combust whether or not it’s directly exposed to flame. We do not live in the same world we did 100 years ago, or even 50 years ago. Our climate is changing, and our building methods need to change with it. We need to think beyond stick frame housing. This tragedy can also be an opportunity to rethink the way we build neighborhoods.

SBA Predatory Lending Practices to those facing serious financial hardships due to COVID, has caused significant financial harm. SBA was marketing the loan increases to go above $200,000 with a simple click of a button, while our businesses were struggling and shut down completely or partially for months and years, should not be a burden to the borrower. These are COVID Economic Injury Disaster Loans, with the funds being used to keep our businesses afloat during closure. These were not Start Up Loans or Loans to Grow Your Business. Now many small business owners like myself are forced with a tough decision to close the business and still fearful of SBA having the power to garnish our future wages or put a lien on our primary homes. This is God Awful. Please help support our small business owners and Americans to be able to still thrive and succeed, after such a disastrous pandemic.
Angela supported: Donald J. Trump: Forgive ALL Small Business EIDL Loans because the Government is responsible for THIS.
