Thank you for protecting our cities from being bought up by large developers after a disaster, and for signing our petition!

We started in Altadena, but if legislators adopt the petition into law, it would apply to any current or future disaster zones in California.  Before the fire, about 5% of Altadena properties were owned by corporations. Now investors, private equity, LLC developers and corporations are starting to own 43%!

Did you know that there's already a stop-corporate-landlords bill , co-authored by CA State Senator Sasha Renee Perez? It caps a single corporation to 1000 units throughout California. We met with the senator last week to tell her about what you are calling for--a temporary moratorium on for-profits buying up more than two properties in a given CA disaster zone for at least 5 years. The response was lukewarm, at best. 

We also hit a wall with LA County Supervisor Kathyrn Barger and Assemblyman John Harabedian, too. Maybe if they hear from you, too, we'll have better luck!

Please leave a voicemail with Kathryn Barger’s office (213-974-5555), John Harabedian (916-319-2041) and Sasha Renee Perez (626-304-1086), and/or your local legislators, and say something like: 

“My name is___ and I live in ___ I want you to take a bold stance against for-profits and put a protective freeze on for-profit land purchases in Altadena and Pacific Palisades for at least 5 years!  Let the fire victims have room to breathe!"
