Curfew regulations have become a hot topic in many communities, sparking debates about safety, freedom, and youth rights. Recent events, such as protests against curfew enforcement and the impact of COVID-19 restrictions, have highlighted the complexities of curfew laws. Petitions on this topic address issues such as the impact of curfews on marginalized groups, the need for flexibility in enforcement, and the importance of balancing safety with personal liberty.
One petition calling for the repeal of a citywide curfew has gained traction, arguing that curfews unfairly target certain populations and limit individual freedoms. Additionally, petitions advocating for community-led alternatives to curfews and more transparent decision-making processes have garnered support from concerned citizens.

Restricting our teens is not my mission here but it’s a matter of enjoying our city without causing absolute chaos and even crime. Safety in the area has become a very serious concern and in my experience, has been getting worse each year. I ask for something to be done to support all residents of the area. Thank you!
I am a Chicago resident and many people are afraid to be out and about in the evenings in downtown Chicago because they feel unsafe. A curfew is one important step in providing a sense of safety. It is critical to restoring a vibrant downtown and a much-needed tax base for our city.
Hello. I have been a resident of both River North and Streeterville for over 40 years. I have never seen anything like this and it saddens and angers me deeply. Our lovely downtown area has turned into a cesspool and crime ridden area. I have lived downtown and paid the difference in property taxes to be safe. Downtown is one of the highest property tax areas. This is surely uncalled for and ask the mayor of our once beautiful Streeterville to adher to this curfew for these violent teens.
I have lived in Streeterville and River North for over 40 years and the last 5 years have seen a drastic change in the appearance and safety of this community. Our community is one of the highest property tax district in the city and my hard earned cash to pay to be safe. That is not happening with these teen takeovers recently. We need this to stop and we need your help to make it stop with a curfew.
Mayor Johnson. Talk does nothing - you must take some action. No matter the situation, bad actions require consequences, not excuses. Any parent knows that. If you care about the youth as you say you do, you would provide tough love and help them learn proper behavior, not just constantly excuse poor behavior that continues to escalate.
We must do more to protect our family and community. As a parent, I won’t forget the shooting on Sunday night that injured a tourist and will traumatize her son for life.
We love this neighborhood but are terrorized by crime and teen takeovers.
Residents will start moving out, the tourists will slowly stop coming and workers will be too scared to do their jobs.
We need to feel safe to exit our building and enjoy this beautiful neighborhood after 4 pm before craziness starts.
I’ve lived in Streeterville for over 20 years and am distressed by the changes that have taken place. Residents should not have to wait for tragedy for something to be done. Please help us to be safe in our own community.
I love this neighborhood and I’ve just purchased a condo here. I hate that we need to restrict the rights of young adults, but we need to balance that with the safety of our residents and businesses. I support this petition, with the hope that we can also find constructive activities and resources for young adults. Thank you!
