After graduating from school, i struggled For months finding an opportunity in what i studied. As i was Looking my debt kept stacking up and i had No money coming in to help me pay for them. Now I’m worried if I’ll ever be able to pay it off. And i resorted To work at a place not in the field of study. I’m still searching for that opportunity that the school told me about.
I grew up in a low-income family. Going to college was only possible with student loans. I obtained my BS and MS to become a therapist, as a mission to help others. I've been paying my loans monthly for 7 years, utilizing the income-driven repayment plan. Under this plan, my total amount owed has not been lowered at all. While I don't feel the need to file for bankruptcy, I can see how other people in a similar situation, but with fewer resources, would need this.
I began school to better educate myself and to secure a degree for a better job. Since graduating, I’ve not been able to secure a job in the field I studied in. I graduated in 2022. I was a single mother raising 3 kids. The loans helped me tremendously to get by. All of this madness. We need to have our rights given back for student loan bankruptcy. Interest needs to be cancelled. There is no way I will be able to live and support my family if I’m spending all of my earned money on a dead end degree. Please change this. Please make it affordable for all of us struggling to put food on the table and keeping a roof over our heads.
Allow student loan bankruptcy or offer student loan forgiveness. These students are trying to better their lives but once graduated they're in debt for most of the rest of their lives. Allow student loan bankruptcy for relief from endless predator collection agencies.
I would be delighted to share my thoughts on the federal student loan as I did research across the countries and I see that they don’t have to pay to go to universities and their top universities and I think that there is such a problem here in the United States of why we have to pay so much into it And it’s really hurting our pockets. I see that I have to Rob Peter to pay Paul. I have to decide my student loan or my food to eat and other miscellaneous things I need to buy and rent rent has gone way sky high and that is a problem with paying back to student loan. And also, I really don’t like bankruptcy. It’s not a good thing that stays on your record for over 10 years so I would have to say to the senators and Congress let’s give the students back their money. It is only fair.
The Cost of Living Continues to Go Up and Loan Payments Exceed What We Are Being Given. Cancel Student Loans So That We Can Help the World Function. We went to school to be greater and active citizens. But instead we are riddled with depression, paycheck to paycheck lifestyles with children all because we wanted to try to make this world a better place. A vicious cycle. Something has to change! Cancel Student Debt!
I was taken advantage of by predatory educational institutions, that have enormously inflated the cost of education and encourage you to just take out endless loans. I am unable to find any work over 20,000/year and I have a small child now. It is simply impossible for me to pay back my loans, and I wish that the government would actually help those of us that were completely taken advantage of by universities and colleges. If you will not allow us to file bankruptcy on these corrupt loans, then you should be asking the universities for that money back.
I’m 67 years old had to come out of retirement over the action of the courts and student loans was less tha 2 years from forgiveness. Now if the loans are reimplemented to full term I will 84 when they are paid. Looks like some precedent would have been set by the previous administration.
Banning bankruptcy and other methods for those trying to better themselves through education, while allowing those methodologies for individuals/families who purposely live above their means, doesn't make sense.
I've been paying on my student loans for 14 years and still owe $11,000+. That money could better be spent in other fields of our economy.
I am 52 year old. I was a poor child growing up. My father, grandfather, and uncles worked at a steel mill until they retired. My mother, aunts, grandmother worked low paying jobs usually part-time. I watched my parents and family work so hard but not acquire much wealth or get ahead. They lived paycheck to paycheck and financially struggled all until they both passed away. My mom died at 48 and dad at 69 due to poor health.
I was determined to do better so as most Americans were told, a degree was the answer. I did my research prior to deciding and acquired four degrees over the years. When the recession hit in 2009, I only had an associates in paralegal and a BS in management. My husband was laid off and we both applied to well over a hundred positions globally but no one wanted to hire us except part time retail Christmas help, which I took. My husband was laid off for four months and we had to turn to churches and friends to help with mortgage, utilities, and food. We had three kids at that time. I was told by the internet search and companies that the job market was overly saturated with those who had masters so my Bachelors was not enough. I pursued two masters to hopefully give me an advantage. I fell into the trap of you had to have a degree to make good money. I did not know any better because no one in my family saved or invested their money let alone talk about it. Schools did not talk about it or prepare me for the real world. My husband has developed a lot of health issues that forced him to no longer work. I am now the only one working and trying to pay off our debt so we can buy a house. My student loan is keeping me from buying and rent is outrageous. My family have been here for generations, served this country and our communities for generations. Free money that is given to those who never stepped foot into this country or paid taxes should go to those we have paid their dues. It is backwards! We need to change this!
