I feel this rule for the fursuit parade is unfair and potentially dangerous for people with disabilities who can't handle the heat very well and also for others who can't afford getting a full suit. We are human beings, not mascot characters at Disney Parks. Please change your rule, Anthrocon. Be considerate and mindful of your decision.
This year was going to be the first time I whent to anthro con or even any big fursuit convention. I was so excited to be able to participate just to find out I cant because I dont have a full suit or even a full partial. Im a teenager in high-school who doesn't have the money or time to buy/make a whole suit. Its really sad to see this rule push out so many people.
This was a very classist, and ableist move from Anthrocon. This is during the summer, which is a prime season for heat stroke and heat exhaustion. And this will affect those who can’t afford more clothes, and more fursuit parts. And a lot of folks who attend have health conditions which worse in the heat which won’t allow them to even partial (with hand paws and feet’s paws) during the duration of the parade. Anthrocon think of the people who are financially supporting your con, who don’t want to face any health conditions due to this non “breaking the magic” event.
This rule is dangerous and ableist! Many members of the furry community are disabled, and cant be fully covered! If anything they should encourage poodling and safe suiting practices!
We to go furry events to be who we want to be, not who the rules force us to be.
Werewolves and other human-hybrids, TF furries, and therians NEED to show skin as part of their fursonas. To force them into full-animal form is just as bad as what society does to us 24/7: forcing them into full-human form.
I’ve been fortunate enough to attend Anthrocon since 2019. As a fellow Yinzer, I’m glad Anthrocon has grown year by year. With that said, attending the fursuit parade keeping one’s temperature is critical. It’s summer and when you’re around a bunch of people exactly like you, it gets hot. Not everyone has or wants to attend the parade in a fullsuit, and that’s okay! The whole aspect of requiring a full suit to attend the parade is ridiculous. It should be a requirement to keep cool instead. You are no less for not wearing a fullsuit. Let’s leave the stigma of needing a fullsuit to be in the fandom, rightfully in the past. 🐾
I live less than an hour from Pittsburgh. We're not even halfway through June, and some days would already be too hot and humid for many to wear fullsuits for hours at a time. July hits highs of 91, people are going to have heatstrokes if you keep this policy.
Showing human skin doesn't "break the magic." Excluding people with disabilities or sensory issues, or even just people who can't afford a full suit, breaks the magic. This community is all about expression, individuality, and inclusion. Forcing conformity is about as far from the ethos of the furry community as you can get.
I've never been to Anthrocon before but It's always been a dream, knowing that it'll be less accessible for others in the future is horrible. Not only can some people not afford a suit and will lose the opportunity to meet others or feel accepted by a community, some might physically need to. Heat stroke making it extremely dangerous to wear a full suit, physical disabilities making it hard to take off suits or put one on. I feel like this is a pretty inconsiderate and just full on unfair rule to put into effect! It's not only just inconvenient but i believe it's dangerous at that and can put life's at risk, i understand "ruining the magic" but at the end of the day it's for fun and to meet others not just for the looks and i feel safety is way more important than some looks or "magic"
As someone who has recently started suiting, I could only afford a partial fursuit. I know darn well I'm not the only one and this "no human skin" rule is going to solve what exactly? Nothing! As someone who can't stand extreme heat for short periods of time and someone who has asthma, a full suit in the apex of the summer would be extremely detrimental to me. This just feels classist and ableist.
