Victories in Child Abuse/protection

My nephew drowned in a pool with no safety features installed so this hits close to home. We need to do the right thing for this poor child who lost his life due to his parents not protecting him.

7 minutes. 7 minutes of struggling that no one, especially a toddler, should never have to experience. Here’s a (non-exhaustive) list of things that take 7 minutes or less: 1. A quick phone call with a friend 2. Fill up your gas tank 3. Write a thank you card 4. Fold a load of laundry 5. Complete a journal prompt or meditation 6. Make a smoothie, boil a pot of water, or run through a drive thru 7. Listen to two of your favorite songs Your Honor, my first request is that you genuinely imagine yourself doing each of the things listed above. I invite you to set a timer for 7 minutes and sit in silence. I want you to notice the discomfort of just how long each of the 420 seconds feel. I want you to think about a little boy struggling for 7 minutes. Waiting, wishing, hoping, praying, pleading that a hero would come save him. A boy crying out for his parents. Helpless, alone, terrified. Not to mention the physical exhaustion of trying to save yourself. I don’t know about you, Your Honor, but I don’t know the last time I tread water for 7 minutes. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure I could. And while that’s happening, his dad is under the influence and gambling/sports betting. He is so engrossed and absorbed that he doesn’t realize one of his two children aren’t accounted for. By the time he does realize, it’s too late. Furthermore, the dad is caught in numerous lies, things not adding up. So much so that the initial investigative team felt something was off from the start. The truth never requires a lie. And when a lie is presented, you must assume something happened that shouldn’t have happened. There were dozens of things in the last several minutes of Trigg’s too short life that don’t add up. The family was repeatedly warned a tragedy like this could happen without protective measures around their pool. Not only did they not do so, they declined a company’s offer for a free pool fence because the company wasn’t offering a good enough deal. This level of selfishness, pride, and greed ultimately cost Trigg his life. The highest price that can be paid. It is beyond concerning that this is clearing not an accidental drowning that was a freak accident that couldn’t have been avoided. To the contrary, this entire tragedy was preventable. This is not about vengeance or wanting a grieving family to suffer more pain and loss through a judicial process. This is my voice, one of hundreds, maybe even thousands. We collectively cannot understand how this little boy lost his life in such a preventable and neglectful way. The least you can do for Trigg is to review his case file for 7 minutes. Thank you for your time and consideration.

We need to get justice for TRIGG. I’m a single mom of two and the don’t even take a bath without me being there with them. No 3 year old should be left unsupervised for anything. If you’re going to have a pool put a fence up. No fence, gate or alarm system is too expensive. Your child’s life cost way more. And guess what no one should care about the aesthetics.
