Cat welfare and protection involve ensuring the safety, health, and humane treatment of cats. This includes legal measures to prevent cruelty and abuse, providing proper care and shelter, and creating systems to help lost or stolen cats be reunited with their owners. Efforts to improve cat welfare also address specific practices such as preventing the consumption of cat meat and enhancing pet identification methods.

Legal measures designed to protect cats typically include laws that prohibit animal cruelty and abuse, investigation of suspicious cases, and penalties for offenders. Some regions are working to update and strengthen these laws to provide better protection for cats and ensure more effective enforcement. These laws may also mandate reporting of accidents involving cats and require authorities to check microchips for identification.

Microchipping involves implanting a small electronic chip under a cat's skin, which contains a unique identification number. When a lost or stolen cat is found, authorities or veterinarians can scan the chip to identify the owner and facilitate the pet's safe return. Improvements to microchipping systems aim to improve registration accuracy and encourage councils to check microchips on deceased animals found on roads.

The consumption of cat meat is a concern in some areas due to animal welfare and ethical considerations. Campaigns seek to prevent this practice by promoting laws and awareness that recognize cats as companion animals rather than food sources. These efforts aim to protect cats from inhumane treatment and slaughter associated with meat consumption.

We lost our cat Rocky on the road outside the house, that driver didn’t stop. He was a much loved member of our family, still missed. Happy to put my name on this petition and support this campaign.
cat cafés that are well run (and aim to re-home cats) are important for getting cats used to people, and helping would-be pet owners meet and socialise with an animal before making a decision. yes, not all cat cafés run like this and concerns around exploitation and animal welfare are very important. however other cat cafés put the animals first and have strict policies to ensure their welfare; they should not be unfairly maligned and the RSPCA should educate people on the characteristics of a good vs bad cat café so they can be responsible customers.
As a former humane officer, I think rescues should have every advantage. There is obviously a difference in these establishments. I live in the US, and one may think my opinion in British affairs doesn't count, but I do have perspective. Unfortunately, where I live, very little consideration is given to felines, and they are just dumped on the street to fend for themselves. Doing something is better than doing nothing, and restrictions on well-meaning and humanely run establishments is overreach. I understand the concern of stress on cats who are not sociable and then thrown together, but for youngsters and kittens, it could be ideal. Clients wouldn't want to sit among fighting cats, so I'm sure vetting cats would be priority for this reason, if no other. The whole premise is to relax with cats and enjoy a cuppa.
This struck a raw cord with me ,the natural vet in union city PA showed the same disrespect towards my cat and he is no longer with us today because of that man
