I drive from South Fulton to Atlanta at least once a month to patronize the book worm. This is my favorite place in powder springs and to hear that the city is trying to shadow them is disheartening.
I have always loved the book worm when I live in powder springs and now that i don’t. My son loves Mrs. Julia he thinks she is beautiful. My in-laws still live there and it’s just sad to see history go and trying to push great business and people out.
I was hesitant to sign this petition as a Powder Springs resident who would much rather see another local business than a parking lot but I think that the city’s trying to skip a step in revitalizing downtown. Yes, there is a sense of “build it and they will come” as proven by events like last year’s Book Fest but the city really needs to invest in making itself more walkable for residents to get downtown before simply constructing another building. I live about three miles from the Book Worm and it’s incredibly unsafe to try getting there on foot which makes losing the parking lot an even bigger loss.
Because of places like this, I have loved reading my entire life. I drive there just for the real community vibe. Let’s protect this business at all costs.
My daughter who lives in Douglasville took me to The Bookworm and I instantly fell in love. Julia and her staff are so welcoming and engaging. I walked away feeling like family. I was looking for a specific title, which they had, and ended up purchasing other titles from the same author at Julia’s recommendation. What a quaint little shop. My granddaughters immediately went to the children’s section and selected books. I could have spend the rest of the day. This is an important part of the downtown appeal. Don’t lose it!!!
I am disgusted by what has been allowed to happen with buildings and the development of downtown Powder Springs. Are these decision makers so greedy, clueless and non-caring as they seem? They are destroying the old historic town charm of Powder Springs, piece by piece, lot by lot. It is completely heartbreaking and totally inappropriate to build anything modern and tall within several blocks of the main street, yet they are ruining the town that we have all come to love so dearly. I am completely opposed to what they are planning now, next to the book worm. The Bookworm and community garden will serve a far better and much needed service that will fit this town's needs rather than yet another modern retail space - you can go anywhere nearby and find that...downtown PS does not need this development to thrive. Whose pockets are you trying to fill? Why are you destroying the historic feel of this town, just to be as plain and useless as every other average town? Shame on every one of you!
I found The Bookworm by accident. I stumbled upon it walking around downtown Powder Springs.
The coziness of the shop, the warmth of the staff and the welcome of Julia the Owner, keeps me coming back.
The Bookworm has created a lifeline of community and business connections that has been a positive influence in downtown.
The stifling of The Bookworm is disheartening. Embrace local shops and work together to continue bridging commminity and families.
As someone who moved out of this community due to the changes going on in powder springs I’m horrified that they are trying to do wrong by the book worm it needs to be left alone. I hate how they are ruining the town I use to love
What heck is going on with downtown Powder Springs? I moved to Powder Springs to escape all the noise and traffic. Powder Springs had a small town feel to it. Now there’s apartments, traffic and noise. Marietta street is a 2 lane road that goes 25 mph. Why add more congestion? Why destroy the small town feel? Deers used to walk across the front lawn, now I don’t see them in my subdivision any more. City level politicians in Powder Springs don’t care what the residents want. You all do the exact opposite. Why destroy a green space???? Why block the sun for the green space? Make it make sense!
