I hope and trust our governor will heed the wisdom of this petition and veto the expenditure of so much money for a building, working rather to have the funds of our citizenry directed toward avoiding unnecessary incarceration prior to trial and, all the more, toward reducing recidivism by providing support for initiatives that lead, especially young people, to activities that help them gain productive and positive lives.

We need policy change and reform. We need to put people first. Jails shouldn’t be privatized to run like a business. Hawai’i doesn’t need a SUPER jail, we need better rehabilitation.

We don’t need a billion-dollar jail in Honolulu. I’ve been on probation, fought to expunge my record, and worked inside the criminal justice system. I’ve seen the disconnect from all sides — the system isn’t broken, it was built this way. What we need are real solutions: trauma-informed care, housing, mental health support, and community investment. Not another cage. You can’t punish people into healing.

As others have stated, Hawaii is in real need of hiring more trauma and PTSD informed healthcare workers and healthcare initiatives for locals. We don’t need more jails, especially not a “super” jail. This will do nothing for the mental health crisis we have here.

The US already has the largest percentage of incarcerated people in the world. We need to look at why that is and how to lower that percentage instead of building this colossal monument to our own ignorance.

Please bring justice! This was always upsetting news to find out my cousin life was taken away, and few weeks later to find out William Clark is walking free till his sentence is made. I lost my cousin because of him... Harold cannot go home to his fiancé, to work, to family events, to the studio, etc.. We are in a world now with multiple options to make it home SAFE! Why did you not uber, taxi, or even walk home......This will never be ok. You took a life for a choice you made by getting behind that wheel...

Harold deserved to live his life to it’s full extent. He was always a very positive and supportive person to all who got the chance to meet him. He had many wonderful plans for his life along his fiancé. What happened to him was senseless, selfish and avoidable. Allowing the man who took his life to walk freely, is not only disrespectful but cruel to the family and friends that were left heartbroken. Please help bring justice to this horrible situation.

Wow just found out this ain't right! My prayers go out to his family and friends. I met @eiyamthebrand at a show a few years ago. He always brought great vibes and left an impression. I appreciated his good energy and how passionate he was about progressing forward and living a healthy lifestyle. Really positive and talented guy. Rest in power King ✊🏽 This is tragic to see such a positive soul be taken away from us from the avoidable selfish actions of another. I pray your family and loved ones get the closure they deserve. This needs justice!

Crimes involving suspects with mental illness has been at an all time high since COVID 19. Sanctuaries and programs that help both our youth and mentally disabled people have been shut down due to lack of funding yet our Mayor is under investigation for fraud and conspiracies. I wonder if there is a connection between the two. Anywho, there are plenty of people with mental illness who are not violent. What makes the difference between those who are violent and those who are not? The answer is the help they receive from both families and professionals. There is no reason a person with a mental disability should be excused from trial because they are "mentally unfit" to stand trial for a choice they made. What justice does that bring the victim and in this case a child? Again, there are mentally disabled people who are NOT violent. Suspects who claim that they are mentally unfit to stand trial should receive both help and still face trial in court.
