Kai and Chibs do not deserve to face disciplinary action for simply trying to make OU study more accessible—something that should be a priority in the first place. If live online calls where someone reads aloud from course materials are considered acceptable, then it’s difficult to see how privately sharing recordings of the same could be viewed so differently. If a group of friends decided to share access to a resource that helped them study, would that be inappropriate? Because that’s essentially what this was—an act of support, not misconduct.

I am immensely grateful to ‘Kai’ and ‘Chibs’ for their invaluable support. Their chapter recordings have been a lifeline for me, especially when my tutor was unresponsive. As someone dealing with mental health issues, their unwavering support has been greatly received. The chapter recordings have been a vital part of my academic journey, epically in this second year of my part-time course. The support group, a community of like-minded individuals, has made this half of the course more manageable and engaging. As a single parent, financial pressure is a constant companion. However, the chapter recordings have been a huge relief, as they are provided free of cost, lightening my financial burden. I can confirm that I have never given ‘Kai’ or ‘Chibs’ anything I.e. money or tokens etc., in return for their unwavering support and kindness. These are honestly just two kind-hearted gentleman attempting to better the world with more professionals. As we know mental health is increasing and the need for psychologists and therapists are is paramount. Considering this, I do not believe that ‘Chibs’ and ‘Kai’ deserve to be criticised instead they should be praised as so many people on the course would have given up (especially with TMA05, report writing) however with the support group those individuals have managed to continue on the course.

The recordings have been incredibly helpful for my studies and concentration. As someone who experiences mental health challenges and often struggles with motivation, I find it much easier to focus when I listen to the recordings while following along with the reading materials

The recordings have been so helpful for my studies , I am undiagnosed neurodivergent so receive no additional help from the University. I struggle to read alone and remain focused and have found the recordings have improved my learning experience at the open university.

NOTE: IGNORE MY ORIGINAL COMMENT! These audio recordings of study material have been beneficial for fellow students with limitations to learning and have been helpful to those including myself. This is something that has been done on a voluntary basis without any financial incentive or gain and purely to aid other students, something which should be implemented in future education.

These recordings are detrimental to students who have limitations with learning and have been helpful to those including myself. This is something that should have been taken into consideration by the Open University

Certainly! Here’s a comment you could use or adapt to suit your voice: --- As someone with ADHD, the psychology student initiatives to create chapter recordings have been absolutely instrumental to my learning. Unfortunately, the support I've received from the Open University has been minimal. Despite filling in endless forms and doing everything asked of me, I’ve yet to receive any meaningful help. In contrast, the recordings provided by fellow students have genuinely transformed my study experience. It’s recommended that each chapter takes 4–6 hours to complete, but for me, it often takes 10–12 hours due to difficulty concentrating and staying focused when reading. The audio recordings have allowed me to complete chapters with note-taking in the recommended time, making it possible to juggle studying alongside work and family life. Without the selflessness, time, and effort put in by these students, my mental health would be in the gutter—and honestly, I probably would have given up by now. These recordings haven’t just helped me study; they’ve helped me stay afloat.

As a student at The Open University, I’ve found the recordings provided by this initiative to be incredibly beneficial. As someone who struggles with retaining information from text alone, the auditory resources have made a significant difference in my ability to engage with and understand the course content. They’ve been especially helpful for neurodivergent students like myself, and the fact that they were made freely available demonstrates a true commitment to supporting the wider student community. I wholeheartedly support this petition and believe these recordings should be officially recognised and supported by the University.

I fully support this petition. Installing a lift at Hume Court isn’t just a convenience—it’s a necessity. It directly affects the dignity, independence, and daily well-being of our elderly and disabled neighbours. Accessibility should be a basic right, not a luxury. I urge Islington Council to prioritise this urgently and show that they truly care for all members of the community. Let’s make Hume Court inclusive for everyone.
