I worked at Redwood House from 1996-2001, and I've been involved in a number of mental health settings since then. Redwood House remains an extraordinary place, in my experience--an oasis and a true healing community in a challenging world. It's very important to maintain its live and presence.
I know people who utilize mental health services, that battle with depression, schizophrenia, and other psychological issues. I can’t imagine what would happen to these people if they suddenly couldn’t gain access to service centers like Redwood House. Please don’t close this place… Someone’s life could depend on it.
I am alarmed to hear Redwood House is under threat of closing given the shortage of safe community-based therapeutic spaces for individuals needing adequate access to extended mental health treatment in transitional-type housing. Unfortunately too often patients are sent back out into the world with inadequate treatment, or end up in jail or homeless on the streets. It doesn't have to be this way. We can do better.
Please preserve the redwood house. It is imperative that ALL people with any kind of mental disabilities have the ability to see help in the community. Redwood house has been forthcoming for many years in our beloved community and not only deserves to stay in business but to be upgraded in fact to attract more people in our local area. Let's help save redwood house together. Redwood house provides hope.
