The Issue
We are advocating for Yoga to be offered as a class (swap out of your PE period) at Ensign Middle School to support the physical and mental well-being of our students. Today’s youth are spending more time than ever on devices and social media, which has been linked to rising levels of anxiety, depression, and poor physical health. Teens face growing stress from academic pressure, social challenges, and personal expectations — all during a time when their bodies and minds are still developing.
Yoga is a proven, proactive tool that promotes both mental and physical health. It helps reduce stress, improve focus, boost emotional resilience, and strengthen the body. For student athletes, Yoga can also enhance flexibility, prevent injury, and support muscle recovery — encouraging long-term physical care and mindfulness about their health.
By offering Yoga as an elective, Ensign would give students a lifelong skill to manage stress, stay active, and build self-confidence in a healthy and positive way. Let’s give our youth the tools they need to thrive, both in and out of the classroom.
