Free Alan Moyo. He has spent over two months at Harare Remand Prison without trial.
The Issue
Alan Moyo, a University of Zimbabwe student and ZINASU member has been in prison since the 7th of December 2020. He has been repeatedly denied bail under unclear circumstances with the latest excuse being that his court records were incorrectly recorded at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.
Alan Moyo is being charged with incitement to commit public violence. The state allege that on July 3 he incited some commuters at Copacabana bus terminus in Harare by telling them that the time to stage a revolt against Mnangagwa’s administration was conducive because the president had failed the people of Zimbabwe.
What Alan Moyo did is within his constitutuonal rights and what he said is the truth. We therefore see no reason why the state continues to detain him.
The prolonged incarceration of Alan is persecution by prosecution. The Harare regime is trying to silence all activists, particularly student leaders, by using Alan Moyo as an example.
As a responsible generation, let's refuse to be silenced. Where there's injustice, let us all speak out. Increased oppression must, has always been and will always be met with increased resistance.
Help us raise awareness about Alan's situation by signing and sharing this petition. Alan Moyo's freedom is long overdue.
