Remove the 'dislike' button from YouTube

The Issue

On YouTube, the dislike button was made for constructive critism, but it's never used well anymore. People think it's funny to dislike videos, and they share their opinions in selfish ways. Therefore, YouTube should remove the dislike button from all videos. I, @_GalaxyGaming_ on Twitter and GalaxyGaming on YouTube asked many people on their opinions. So here are some opinions on dislikes sent to me:

"This isn’t meant to cause any drama or controversy really, but its something that a lot of people feel the same way about. The dislike button is starting to become an issue in the YouTube community. There are so many problems with this one button that someone just “clicks.” There are many reasons that someone may dislike someones video. One they actually disliked it for the content or something that may have happened in the video. Two that person dislikes the video because of someone who is in the video or the actual video creator. Three there are trolls who just decide to go ahead a click that button just because. There are so many other reasons why people do it but one that has gotten out of hand is this whole revenge/ a group of people disliking someones video going on. I can just say that this is completely unfair, why are there people who like to put other people down on their creations. Those people clearly don’t realize how much work, time, and effort goes into producing just ONE video. For some it maybe hours, for some it may be days and others months. It all takes time. There is just so much that goes into that one video that there are people who just don’t appreciate hard work and dedication. Something that I feel has become irritating is when a creator uploads a video and they want to see feedback on it, but instead when they upload it, a second later they see a dislike. For one I am pretty sure that “person” wasn’t able to watch the entire video in that one second. Some people don’t even take the time to actually watch the entire video before pressing that dislike button. Us creators want to know why people dislike our videos so we can change something to make it better. Also with disliking of videos the video creator doesn’t know what they did wrong because the person who disliked it doesn’t give them feedback. Feedback is something all YouTuber’s want. They want to know what they should do with their videos and what not to do. It would be so much more helpful if we could know why, but unfortunately YouTube hasn’t really made a way for people to do that. There is the comment section but not everyone who disliked the video is going to write a comment saying why they did. At this point the dislike button doesn’t really serve a legitimate purpose.
Like I mentioned earlier there are people who just wait for a video to go up to dislike it. The fact that now there are groups of people planning out to do so, or there are people with multiple accounts who say “I have my 5 accounts ready, time to dislike.” What do they get out of disliking a video? Absolutely nothing. They may think that it will stop people from making videos, but no it will only drive that person into wanting to produce even more. That 1 dislike means that the uploader just gained an extra view, so if anything they are helping out the video creator. Since there is so much work put into videos, when you see a dislike it shows a lack of appreciation for hard work put into a creation. Not everyone is going to like every video that someone produces, but that doesn’t mean that they should spam the dislike button every time. If you don’t like the video you can just click out and not watch it. There is a simple thing that was created called the “x” button where you click it and whatever you were watching magically disappears. Personally I have watched many videos that I didn’t enjoy, but I never press the dislike button because I know how it feels to have someone dislike a video and I feel there is no reason to click it. Just because there is a button that says dislike and you disliked that one video doesn’t mean you have to click it. People have started to use this button for the wrong reasons which I don’t think is right at all.
YouTube should either get rid of the dislike button completely or what they should do is completely remake it. What I mean by that is when a person dislikes a video there should be a mandatory feedback box that pops up that lets the disliker submit their feedback. I feel as though that would help any YouTube creator with their videos. When knowing what people want and don’t want it can help that persons channel a lot, because if they are doing something over and over again that people dislike I think the creator should be informed about it. I know I am not the only one who feels this way. I just think that more people should respect others work no matter what. We should support each other in this community and not going against each other. I hope that one day YouTube will fix this so that we don’t have to deal with issues like this. I just hate seeing people who work hard and put so much time into their videos and seeing a massive amount of dislikes on it. It’s unfortunate that there is a button that people take advantage of for the wrong reasons." - @TheSimsLifee on Twitter, TheSimsLife on YouTube.

"I think it is stupid, it lowers peoples self esteem, it takes youtubers a lot of time to make videos and for someone to not even watch a few seconds of your video and immediately dislike is incredibly rude, fair enough if they tell you what you done wrong but most people don't even tell you, but then again, a view is a view and each view helps your channel I guess, but getting a dislike is horrible." - @PinxxShadow on Twitter, Pinxx on YouTube.

"It promotes online negativity. You either like a video, or you don't, and if you don't, keep it to yourself." - @Only_Wheatley on Twitter.

"I hate it how people just dislike it randomly because they hate your videos. (not yours, but you know what I mean.)" - @alieftwu on Twitter, TheGamerGeek on YouTube.

"It's stupid because people don't dislike because they generally don't like the video; they do it to get to people or to troll them." - @Pandasimss on Twitter, Pandasims on YouTube.

"I think it's stupid people constantly disliking and its mean because it takes alot of time to edit and record. We take time out of our days and people don't appreciate it!" - @AshleyGamingYT on Twitter.
