YouTube ad to tear down a church for a mosque
Why this petition matters
One of the advantages of YouTube is that almost anyone can make ads on It; local restaurants who can’t afford a TV ad, a local dealership or a law firm. But, YouTube needs to review the content of those ads for hate speech and other offensive material.
I was watching YouTube when an ad came up requesting for donations for a mosque in Tampa, Florida, which is totally OK. Religious institutions are mainly relying on donations and there is no harm in making a YouTube ad to help raise funds.
What is very offending in that ad is that it clearly asks for donations to tear down a church and build a mosque.
The ad clearly says “Urgent request: Help is needed to tear down a church to build a mosque before Ramadan (a muslim month)” and the link button says “Donate to tear down the church”. It doesn’t even say “Donate to build a mosque”, but “to tear down the church”.
According to the first amendment of the US constitution, everyone in the United States has the right to practice his or her own religion, or no religion at all. But the language used in this ad is very offensive and inciting others for hate speech and for offending others beliefs.
YouTube is not reviewing the content of such ads and doesn’t even respond to submitted reports. Please help make YouTube aware of the problem to take actions toward such offensive ads.
