Youth Shouldn't Be Banned From Public Spaces

Youth Shouldn't Be Banned From Public Spaces
The Issue
The Atlantic Yards development in Brooklyn, New York, is planning on implementing a "Youth Escort Policy" into what they are touting as a "public plaza." These policies generally require that on Friday and Saturday evenings, people 17 and younger must be with an adult 21 or over. Creating barriers for certain portions of the public does not make the development a public space and violates civil rights.
Although implementing such a policy may increase sales for Atlantic Yards, such profits do not permit discrimination against young people, or any other group.
Please create a constructive solution by inviting the NYU chapter of the National Youth Rights Association to help create an alternative plan to address the issue that young people hanging out in malls drives away other customers.
