Why are we protesting?

Flint Youth Theatre has been a staple in Flint’s community for generations as both a sanctuary for young actors and technicians and a place of entertainment for the people of our city. The change into Flint Repretory Theatre is one that comes at the expense of us- the youth. Often times our schools do not have sufficient funding or programming for the arts and most families cannot afford classes. This theater has offered us the opportunity to work with professional actors, directors, and designers FOR FREE and helped us to cultivate our passion for theatre.

Are we against all of the changes at Flint Youth Theatre?

No. In fact, it’s just the opposite. Expanding programming to reach a wider audience is a wonderful idea! Many of the new programs that are being introduced to Flint Youth Theatre/Flint Repretory Theatre come at no expense to the youth programming and offer opportunity to the other people in our community who deserve it.

So what can we do?

Our mission is not to oppose the Flint Repretory Theatre, but rather reinstate the youth into our Signature Series Productions. In order to make this happen we are going to strongly support any and all youth involvement by participating in the few opportunities left for young people.
