Youth Election Volunteer Mobilization: Acknowledge and Empower the Youth

Youth Election Volunteer Mobilization: Acknowledge and Empower the Youth
The Issue
INTRODUCTION
“Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng Bayan”: the famous line of the national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. As the national hero stated, we should focus to help the youth to achieve their future. Each one of them is unique and creative in its own ways.
Just like what the powerful slogan says, “There is no power like the power of youth because the power of youth doesn’t stop!” which got popular in a protest of some young people that have undying hunger for change in the society and community. We, too, believe that the acknowledgment of every child’s uniqueness is a must. The power of the intelligence and wittiness of the youth is unimaginable and unbelievable. Stop marginalizing a child’s sole distinctive trait, because little do we know that these unusual traits may be the key to the betterment for which we were always waiting and looking for. Worldly problems may be solved through the help and power of the youth. Someone may be born to create new things that will help the entire world, someone who will change the world for its betterment.
People, especially the Baby boomers, who are often parents of the late Gen X and Millenial people, should not put a halt to the development and potential of the youth just because of the old habits of the past generation of parents. The youth have the power to change the norms because having a new set of youth also means having new changes for the world. We shall put an end to all of the stereotypes of the past. Humanity has advanced up to this day not to pass on bad behaviors and not repeat our own mistakes. Stop disregarding the potential of the youth. We all are naïve and unaware when we are born, we all need someone who will guide us. Live foolishly and free but be responsible for your own actions. We must be fully open to changes in our society because change is a part of improvement and development.

As young people grow up, they build skills and knowledge that are important to them as youth, and that become more important as they become more independent and grow older. Becoming fully engaged in the world around themselves leaves youth and personal development as important things to think about and work towards. This is according to Freechild Institute, an organization that aims to change the World with the youth leading it.
According to Freechild Institute, some of the issues young people can address through personal development include: Increasing self-awareness, Learning new skills: including communication, visioning and goal setting, life planning, etc, and Developing self-respect and self-esteem. (Further Explanation)
Have you ever heard the famous quote of George Bernard Shaw? “Youth Is Wasted on the Young, And Wisdom Is Wasted on the Old.” Society itself created an endless conflict between the youth and the old. Wherein few of the aged members of the society continues on taking advantage on the youth’s inexperience, naivety and ignorance on the horrors of life. Thus, the cycle will repeat itself as the youth become a part of the aged.
Youth plays a big role in the society, as they are the ones who will carry on the legacy of humanity. The youth of today can do marvelous jobs for our nation. Youth is a beginning of an end. The youth have a lot of potential that no one should shut one eyes to. There are lots of youth movement that’s making a change around the globe:
ONE Youth Ambassadors
- ONE’s campaigns across Europe. They lobby decision makers, work with the media to raise the profile of our campaigns, and encourage the public to sign petitions through online activity and local events. Thanks to their contribution millions of pounds/dollars/euros of funding has been allocated to help the world’s poorest get the services they need to lift themselves out of extreme poverty.
VSO – Voluntary Service Overseas
- VSO is a predominantly youth lead organization with a vision for a “world without poverty “. Its mission is to bring people from around the world together to fight poverty. VSO recruits' students and professionals to work as volunteers, living and working alongside local populations in developing countries. Founded in 1958, VSO has so far sent over 50,000 volunteers to over 140 developing countries, doing important work and impacting thousands of lives!
InKuluFreeHeid
- Working on issues as diverse as the need for South Africa to create a “unifying identity”, the importance of indigenous languages amongst the youth, the National Development Plan 2030, galvanizing the youth-vote in the 2014 National General Elections and speaking out against the abuse of women and children, this organization is a hive of youth activity.
The Philippines today is tormented with various social afflictions, poverty, crime, corruption, and indifference. The youth, which by legal definition comprises those who are 15 to 30 years old, comprises almost one-third of the country’s population. Given their large share in the Filipino population, the youth increasingly play a large role in the development of the Philippine society. Their attitudes, values, mind-set, and priorities will determine the development of the country in the future. With the crucial role the society has placed upon the youth, it is imperative to instill a positive outlook upon today’s youth that will orient them towards development.
The youth can make a change as well. They are not just a mere livestock whose sole purpose is to reproduce and wait to rot on their own coffin. They are the change; we all know we cannot teach new tricks to the old dog. The youth could inspire both hope and fear in the society. Fear in the form of apathy, criminality, and immorality. Hope in the form of participation, concern and volunteerism. Solving the country’s social problems, then, is a challenge for the youth to bring hope rather than fear into our society.
Youth is crucial to making a change in the society whether if it's for the better or for worse. Youth should not be put halt on to its potential but rather let them bloom to their full potential. Youths have power. We will change everything we can: right here, right now.
There’s a Youth Governance in the Philippines:
Sangunnian and Katipunan ng Kabataan

In 2002, the age bracket for KK membership was changed, through R.A. 9164, from 15 to 21-year-olds to 15 to 17-year-olds.
- The Sangguniang Kabataan or youth council is the governing body of the youth assembly or Katipunan ng Kabataan of every barangay. They are elected by the members of the Katipunan ng Kabataan in elections conducted by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). While the Katipunan ng Kabataan is an assembly of youths in every barangay whose primary objective is to enhance the social, political, economic, cultural, intellectual, moral, spiritual and physical development of the youth in the country.
