Legalise Public Display of Affection (PDA) in India

The Issue

Your signature can change a lot of things in India. As India is adapting the western policies and trends. It is important that India as a country have an open mind about seeing couples in public.

"According to section 294 of the Indian Penal Code, Public Display of Affection (PDA) is a criminal offence with a punishment of imprisonment up to 3 months or a fine, or both". This law has been repeatedly and blatantly misused by the police to harass couples. I want to ask Are we not allowed to hold hands of the person we love so much? Should this be a punishable offence?

The country which introduced the world to the word "Kamasutra" and has a history of portraying nudity during the times of Mughals, that country restrict couples to display love according to their convenience. I understand that however, this section prohibits display of obscene acts, which is justified, but why should holding hands, or kissing your love be considered as a punishable offence?

Every country across the world is changing and adapting change, and it is about time that India begins to embrace the change and accept the dynamics of the world even in terms of culture.
