No Kill Coalition for York County, SC

No Kill Coalition for York County, SC
The Issue
York county SC has worked very hard to become more modern and keep up with other growing areas. Unfortunately we are still very far behind on the times with our animal shelter. Not only is it still a kill shelter, but it is also a high kill shelter.
More people are willing to work with and donate to shelters and rescues that are no kill. Not only will more animals be adopted but more revenue will be brought in by increased donations and adoption fees.
The number of savable animals is roughly 3.8 million while over 23 million Americans will get a new pet every year. By sheer numbers all shelters should be empty. There are also hundreds, if not thousands, of feral cats that come through shelters but never make it out. Farmers are often willing to take these as they keep rodents out of the barns.
Please help us go no kill and set the precedent for nearby counties. Sign this petition be the voice for the voiceless. They need our help.
In conclusion, I will leave you with this: "In truth, and at the heart of the No Kill philosophy, is the understanding that the reasons we have historically been given for why animals are being killed in shelters - there are too many for too few homes available, and that the American public is uncaring and irresponsible - have been proven wrong in the face of data and communities that are achieving No Kill level save rates not by changing the habits of the people within a community, but by changing the culture, policies and procedures of the shelter itself. In other words, we know pet overpopulation is a myth because both the statistics and the experience of progressive shelters prove it is." ~Nathan Winograd
