Reinstate Commanding Officer of the 4th Precinct Captain John J Mueller YPD

The Issue

Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner and Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano please stop the reassignment of Commanding Officer of the 4th Precinct Captain John J Mueller of the Yonkers Police Department. Captain Muellers leadership has had and continues to have a positive impact on the Yonkers community and removing him from his command will send the public the wrong message. By assigning a new Commanding Officer to the fourth precinct, you are sending us the message that the people in the fourth precinct don’t matter. The Yonkers Police Department has developed the Mutual Courtesy and Respect Campaign and Captain Muller represents its mission.

Captain Mueller understands that in order to change we have to start by working with the people, be willing to listen and to follow through on commitments. Captain Mueller stays connected and meets with local organizations, listens to what trends and issues the people that they serve face. He has meet with leaders, helped cleaned up and secured school grounds, has been fighting the prostitution and drug dealings, the list continues. Captain Mueller’s leadership has initiated projects, like “Safe Corridors,” that provides the younger residences with a safe route home from school, keeping them protected from gang members and bullies. He is gaining the children’s trust in law enforcement, by showing up, listening and taking action. The Yonkers community is becoming a safer one, where criminals have gotten the message and neighbors trust their law enforcement again. Due to Captain Mueller’s impact in the community, crime rate has decreased, the participation of the monthly community meetings has increased and people are once again working with law enforcement
By signing this petition you are supporting our plea to allow Captain John Mueller to remain as the Commanding Officer of the Forth Precinct in Yonkers.

“The bond between the Yonkers Police Department and the community is strong. A solid partnership between the police and the community is essential. Along with feeling safe from crime and violence and secure in their homes and businesses, the public wants to be treated in a civil manner in their dealings with the police. The public requires that police officers be polite, objective, responsive, patient and understanding. In addition, the community insists that the police interact with them in a professional manner, free of abusive language and profanity. The YPD Policy and Procedure Manual reminds all members to be respectful, courteous and impartial towards members of the public. Member adherence to this directive is mandatory.”
