WHEREAS, that the Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organized the national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2020 (Contest for New Music 2020) on 7 March 2020 in order to select their entry for the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands;

WHEREAS, that the country had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest fifty-three times since their first entry in 1961 with its lone victory in 2006 followed by a string of poor results and non-qualifications, with the most recent entry being sent by Darude feat. Sebastian Rejman which resulted in another non-qualification, finishing in 17th (last) place in the first semi-final with 23 points;

WHEREAS, that the organizers planned to revert to the multi-act final that would be held on 7 March 2020 at Tampere, with the winning entry determined by public voting and the votes from eight international jury panels;

WHEREAS, that since the release of the six entries on all of its platforms and the announcement of the finalists, the entry “Cicciolina” by singer Erika Vikman and composers Janne Rintala, Mika Laakkonen, Erika Vikman, Saskia Vanhalakka became the consistent front-runner throughout the duration of the competition, with the entry gaining more than 1.25 million YouTube views and 1 million Spotify streams and odds reaching as high as 57%;

WHEREAS, that most people enjoyed the said entry and possibly delivering the country’s best result should it had been sent to Rotterdam while others reluctantly went against the entry for its scandalous lyrics;

WHEREAS, that despite the overwhelming victory in the televoting, the eight international jury panels punitively gave the entry very low marks and leaving the entry “Looking Back” by Aksel Kankaanranta top marks, despite being second in the odds with less than 20% chance of winning and reached almost 213,000 YouTube views, thus selecting the latter as Finland’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, Netherlands; and

WHEREAS, that the international juries proved their incompetence by this unacceptable decision to ignore the wishes of the people, just for their own taste as evidenced by the Uuden Musikiin Kilpailu 2020 Final; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that Yleisradio must investigate at all costs, the rigged voting process by the eight international jury panels and intervene the situation to accede the wishes of the majority;

RESOLVED, that Yleisradio should be held accountable for the incompetence they committed, ruining Finland’s only chance of winning and sending to another non-qualification instead if they refuse to take action by acceding the demands of the people;

RESOLVED, that the Finnish Head of Delegation (HoD) shall refrain from participating in the upcoming Heads of Delegation meeting as a protest; and

RESOLVED, that Aksel Kankaanranta shall be disqualified from participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 and send Erika Vikman to Rotterdam, for that the latter represents not just the whole Finnish public, but also the European majority.
