Jacob Schwartzman started this petition to Yeshiva University

As students of Yeshiva University we have to enroll in some sort of morning program to learn Jewish studies. Students enrolled in BMP or YP are at a disadvantage of those students enrolled in IBC or JSS because we have to take Hebrew Language for credit but IBC and JSS students get it factored towards their other IBC or JSS classes. Their morning program system his gives BMP and YP students an extreme disadvantage. A BMP student should be able to get through the Hebrew Language requirement just like a IBC student would. Students who want to learn in BMP but would want to use the IBC Hebrew language and jewish core curriculum system would now have to make a tough decision, and possibly the wrong one. Students shouldn't have to choose between a morning program they belong to and being able to pass a class that is extremely difficult for them. It shouldn't have to be one or the other. So after we have to have a morning program we also have the jewish core curriculum, so why do we now have to have another jewish related core throw onto us.

Due to the fact that YU doesn't offer classes in the mornings because of the morning programs and that we have to take jewish core curriculum during the afternoon, those of us having to take three semesters of Hebrew barely have time to fit in actual college courses into our schedules because were worrying about filling up the jewish and Hebrew cores. Which again, IBC and JSS kids don't have to worry about because these are included in their morning program.

On a broader note, so many students have had their GPA go down drastically due to a poor Hebrew Language grade which has hurt them while applying to law schools, medical schools, and other graduate school programs. Hebrew comes very hard to so many and it gives them so much stress having to figure out just how they are going to get by and pass the class. College is suppose to be a time where we prepare ourselves for the real world and use the skills and knowledge we learnt for the future.

Learning a language is very difficult and stressful for so many students. During these tough times we face as a society we are forced to learn over Zoom. Due to this new form of education it is extremely tough to learn something as complex without face to face interaction. Students taking Hebrew language during online classes might not do as well due the difficulties Zoom classes bring and now might not do as well as they would've had if they were in actual in person class. Yeshiva University should be trying their best to help the students succeed in every single way they can.

So please, sign this petition for all the people who have been effected by the Hebrew language requirement in Yeshiva University.
