Yeshiva Speedcubing League

The Issue

Our goal is to create a place for "cubers" across all yeshivos, fast or slow, to compete and share their passion.

In summary, the way this will work is that there will be a team from each yeshiva of 3-6 people who will go head-to-head against each other in an intense race to solve a Rubik's Cube. This will be a double-elimination Bracket to see which school is dominant.

This is how the system will work from start to finish:

  • Tryouts:
    • A representative from every school will be chosen to select the people to be on the team
    • If a person is interested in joining, they will do an average of 5/Ao5 (WCA Official solves click to view) in front of one of these representatives to determine if they make it on the team, and if so, their overall seed in the tournament
    • This seed is determined by how fast your average is in comparison to other people across the entire tournament
    • This seed will be used to determine both the overall seed of each team and within each match who is racing whom
  • Meetings/clubs
    • Within each school, there will be meetings and/or clubs (to be determined by each school) in which the team can practice.
      • This doesn't necessarily have to be limited just to the school's team; this also may be open to anyone who likes cubing and just wants to hang out with a cube in hand.
      • At these clubs, it will be decided by the representative which three people from the team will be competing in the upcoming matches; this decision is based on which people have competed in past matches, ensuring that everyone gets some action.
  • School vs School matches
    • The double-elimination bracket will be determined by the team seed average.
    • Each individual race will work like the following: There will be two tables with one competitor and one judge (click to view the role of a judge) on each.  Behind them, the scrambler scrambles the cubes behind a trifold board, giving everyone the same scramble.
    • The two competitors will trade solves for a best of five solves for three sets, then the next two competitors will go up for another best of five solves for three sets, and the final two will do the same.
    • In total, it will be best of five solves for best of nine sets (three for each individual race).
    • These races will go in ascending order, with the two lowest-seeded competitors racing each other first, etc.
      • An example of this system can be found in Cubing Clash (link) and Monkey League (link).

In conclusion, our goal is to show off our love of cubing in the most competitive and entertaining way possible.
