Under current California law, human trafficking is considered a non-serious and non-violent felony. Senator Shannon Groves introduced Senate Bill 1042 to improve safety in our communities by advocating to make human trafficking a serious and violent felony, making this crime a strike under the Three Strikes Law. San Bernardino County alone has experienced such a rise in human trafficking that in 2017 they formed the San Bernardino County Human Trafficking Task Force.
