Every day, millions of people use Yelp to decide where to eat and spend their money.

Yelp helps consumers compare restaurants based on food quality, service, and price—but it provides little information about environmental responsibility.

Many customers want to support businesses that reduce waste, avoid unnecessary single-use plastics, compost food scraps, source responsibly, and take meaningful steps toward sustainability. Today, finding that information is difficult and inconsistent.

We are asking Yelp to create a simple Sustainability Rating and search filter that helps consumers identify environmentally responsible businesses.

This rating could recognize efforts such as:

• Reusable dishes and cups for dine-in customers
• Reduced use of single-use plastics
• Composting and recycling programs
• Food waste reduction and donation efforts
• Sustainable packaging practices
• Responsible sourcing and plant-based options

The goal is not to punish businesses. The goal is to reward businesses making positive changes and give consumers the information they need to make informed choices.

Yelp transformed how we evaluate quality and service. It can also help make sustainability visible.

If sustainability matters, it should be searchable.
