A petition has been launched to try and save one of the oldest houses in Barton.

The Issue

Recently a planning application (Replacement dwelling following demolition of existing dwelling, https://planning.newforest.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=_NEWFO_DCAPR_215657&activeTab=summary&fbclid=IwAR3U5K4oSR8b9CxzW4Xz4OrCpO3scdKtxzaFDVhbElinWfO0gxVPY58cIsg was submitted. The applicant withdrew, we understand it is only a matter of time before a new application will be submitted for “new homes”. On the 7th and 8th February, a large team of tree surgeon began cutting all the tree's down on the grounds. A large fire was burned illegally, the locals believe this was undertaken to be able to cut down the tree’s and burn a large fire before the local authorities were able to stop it. The new application is yet to be seen, but the local community have taken this property to heart. Many people use the park in front of the cottage and can be seen looking at the now demolished garden and wondering why all this groundwork has been undertaken and why the windows and door of the old cottage are now left open overnight. Perhaps because the cottage is no longer required! We'd like the council to understand that we don't not want to lose a historic home to new homes. This petition has been set up to be proactive, rather than reactive, and to give us a better chance to save a 200–250-year-old cottage.
