School off for students on Eid

School off for students on Eid
The Issue
The month of Ramadan is an important month for Muslims around the globe. Many including K-12 students that fast from sunrise to sunset for 29 to 30 days. The end of Ramadan is celebrated for three days (known as Eid). Many people celebrate Eid with- family, charity, Eid prayer, and eating together.
Those days( May 12-13) us students have school, and would be marked absentee as a result of skipping that day! We ask that rather than our school district have a high absentee rate, and having us make the decision of skipping school and/or missing out on an important day in our religion, they mark Eid an official school holiday!
Many school districts like Detroit City School have already recognized Eid as official school holiday. So why can’t we? I personally enjoy when my friends ask questions about the month of Ramadan, and are interested in my religion, so having our school districts involved would show respect and diversity!!!
