SAVE SINGHS LOCAL SHOP, SAY NO TO ALCOHOL LICENSE AT POST OFFICE ON RUFFORD DRIVE.

The Issue

An application for a new premises licence has been made to sell alcohol at Rufford Drive Post Office from 7am until 11pm & I am urging all local people to object to this.

We already have a local convenience store two doors away that is open from 9am until 10pm, 365 days a year. It has been run by the same family for over 16 years. It is an integral part of our local community where the owners, The Singh family always go above & beyond their role as shopkeepers by helping out the old & vulnerable in the community. This has been especially evident during the Covid 19 pandemic when they have selflessly helped local people, often at their own personal cost. As with all small businesses their very livelihood is under constant threat from large supermarkets but to have competition in such close proximity could very well be the final straw for them to survive in these perilous financial times.

Rufford Drive post office also used to be an integral part of our community but not any more. The Post Office rarely opens on time, it closes early & often doesn't open at all. The queues for the Post Office are very long due to the lack of staff. They do not even sell newspapers anymore.

Granting them a licence to sell alcohol is of no benefit to our community & could be the death of a much loved local shop.
