Dear Amazon India and Flipkart, it’s time to adopt “waste-free” packaging!

This has probably happened to you: You order a small, non-fragile item online. The item could easily fit inside a padded envelope. Instead, it arrives in a box that is much larger than needed, with several layers of non-biodegradable packaging. There’s no reason for the biggest ecommerce companies of the country to participate in this much waste, day in and day out.
Indian ecommerce market is expected to reach $64 billion by 2021, growing at a five-year CAGR of 31.2 percent.
Imagine the increasing amount of waste generated and added onto the landfills, while we are yet to solve the disposal of the existing waste itself!
While they battle it out in the war of sales numbers, we can show them that the winner will be the one with the smallest carbon footprint! The companies can come to be known for their responsibility towards our planet. This change may even be good for their bottom lines. If you’re as concerned as I am by the environmental cost of over-sized and wasteful packaging, please take a moment to sign this petition. Let's let them know it’s time to eliminate excessive packaging -- right away and once and for all.
