Only 10 Vaquitas Left On Planet Earth! Take Action Now Before It Is Too Late!
The Issue
There are only around 10 vaquitas left in the wild on our Earth, and if we don't take action now, it will be too late. Due to their critically and globally endangered status since 25 years ago in 1996, they are now restricted to a single part of the world - the Northern Gulf of California in Mexico.
Unfortunately, vaquitas have been drastically declining in number due to the highly sought-after totoaba fish. Although an endangered fish in itself, the totoaba has been given higher levels of protection than the vaquita, so that no international trade is permitted. Despite this, illegal capture of totoaba fish by gill nets has rendered innocent vaquitas to become tangled in those nets and eventually drown from a lack of air at the surface.
Effective restoration of the vaquita population would cause the ecosystems within the Gulf of California to thrive once more, as they balance and support other organisms in an interdependent food web. This is not just crucial to the lives of other animals, but to human beings as well. If not us, who? If not now, when?
