Make Dugong hunting completely illegal in Australia.

Make Dugong hunting completely illegal in Australia.
The Issue
Dugongs are one of the gentlest marine animals in the world, friendly and eat nothing but seaweed and eelgrass. They are of no harm to our ecosystem at all, yet they are being hunted daily such that they are now considered a critically endangered species, vulnerable to extinction if the hunting is not stopped soon. At this moment, there are around 85,000 Dugongs in the world. The rate that they reproduce at will only increase their population by a maximum of 5 percent per year, yet they are still being exploited. Dugong meat is uncommon and therefore it is unnecessary to actively hunt the species.
Dugongs are mainly found in Australian waters, thus a hunting ground for many hunters in the area. These waters are home to at least three-quarters of the global population and are a vitally important stronghold for the species. Dugong hunting is present around the coasts of Australia, with a total of 29 places recorded down over the years, with brutal pictorial evidence of the violent killings of these sea cows. Dugong hunting is still legal in many parts of Australia, the cause for their dwindling numbers. We hope to change this. Make Dugong hunting illegal before it is too late.
