Last December, Michigan’s Republican Senate majority approved legislation that would all but guarantee a new polluting coal plant will be built in Michigan even if it's not needed! Not only does this bill stick it to ratepayers, it rejects alternative energy such as wind and solar as a substitute for dirty coal—an action that flies in the face of Michigan’s economic development around clean energy jobs. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
If you act now to tell your state Representative to oppose the Senate Substitute for House Bill 5220, we can stop Michigan from building what could be the last dirty coal plant constructed in America.
Please oppose the coal plant language in the Senate version of HB 5220 and support increasing the polluter air fees to cover at least the minimum required by the federal government. The version currently under consideration flies in the face of the reasonable version of HB 5220 that the House passed last year.
Cutting consideration of need or clean alternatives to coal plants defies common sense and protection of ratepayers in favor of a 19th century technology with deep pockets. Please take a stand for Michigan and oppose the Senate Substitute for HB 5220.
