In most zoos, there is a polar bear. A polar bear's natural habitat is in a cold area, like the arctic. When a polar bear lives in the zoo, it can be effected by the temperature and lack of resources. Though they are fed well, they do not have a proper living space. Some zoos, like the North Carolina Zoo, have a small open area with only a small pool of water present. Heat can hurt the bears, which is present in the animals behavior. The bear in the North Carolina Zoo paces back and forth because of his small area, bangs on the glass, and rubs his nose over the glass. The zoos say they are keeping the beautiful creatures in a safe environment, but in reality they are not. Each polar should have a large amount of space to walk around, a cold temperature, and large amounts of water. They need to live the way they would in the wild. Zoos are not doing this. The safety of the polar bears is very important and the state and country zoos need to know of the importance.
