We have crossed 70,000 signatures - thank you for joining the fight to protect animals. I am pleased to hear that the government and Scott Morrison are stepping up the calls for greater scrutiny on wet markets, which is where COVID-19 is believed to have originated.

Last month, I visited Vietnam with my friends (who have also helped start this petition) and saw live turtles in dreadful conditions made available for sale. It was such a distressing sight. We are all facing very challenging times in this pandemic. I hope we can come together to fight against the very harmful practice of wildlife trafficking that has gained huge traction during COVID-19.

"The chief veterinary officer in Littleproud's department, Mark Schipp, told the minister that wet markets for wild animals have generated six pandemics in recent decades. It was time to do something about it instead of just waiting for the seventh, Littleproud decided."

The Agriculture Minister, David Littleproud has said "I am challenging the G-20 to lead this. It's important that we have open conversations about these events that impact lives and the food security of nations...Wet markets for wild animals, says Littleproud, are a cocktail that just explodes every so many years, "so you just have to take away the ingredients". He emphasises that the problem isn't wet markets themselves, but the trade in wild animals. It's this element that needs to be "isolated and eliminated".

We have two major motivations to end the practice in keeping the world safe from future pandemics and protecting animals for cruelty. Please keep sharing the campaign!
