Petition Statement: Reform Wisconsin Workers’ Compensation Laws
We are calling on Wisconsin lawmakers to reform workers’ compensation laws that fail to protect employees who suffer catastrophic, life-altering injuries on the job.
In Saukville, Wisconsin, a 23-year-old worker on April 2025 was run over by an uncertified forklift operator while working at Charter Steel. He suffered a devastating crush injury resulting in twelve broken bones, severe tissue damage, bone sepsis, and ultimately a below-the-knee amputation just weeks before his 24th birthday.
Despite clear safety failures, the responsible operator faced no real consequences, and the injured worker has no legal ability to seek justice or fair compensation under current Wisconsin law. (Unless there was a 3rd party suit which doesn't apply to this case)
This young man was a hard worker who served his community through snow removal, junk removal, lawn care, and other physically demanding jobs. Today, he struggles with daily tasks and will live with permanent disability for the rest of his life.
No one should lose a limb at work and be left without accountability, dignity, or financial security.
We demand reform that includes:
Fair compensation for catastrophic injuries
Stronger enforcement of workplace safety laws
Legal accountability when negligence causes permanent harm
Wisconsin workers deserve laws that protect people — not just corporations.
