Third “informational” meeting being held + Input from supporters

A 3rd “informational” meeting will be held on Tuesday April 19th at the Woodbury City Hall in the City Council Chambers on the second floor at 6:00pm, which is located at 8301 Valley Creek Road. Attend this meeting if you have any questions on this development.  Note, this is not a decision-making meeting, a move to stop or progress this project forward, will not be discussed.  I will provide an update when these meetings arise, as it will be important to attend the decision-making meetings in the future.

At the last informational meeting, attendees brought forth a plethora of concerns:

• High density area being built in low-density suburb area. - This particular plot of land has always been identified as a low-density parcel of land.  The surrounding homeowners bought their homes based on this fact.  Now, only after the home owners in the area have purchased their home is the city proposing to change this to a high density zone
• East Ridge School boundaries / zones will have to be re-drawn. Thus, pushing families out whom were planning on, or are half way through their tenure at the school
• High density zones are highly correlated with increased crime. –  It's easy see this by viewing Woodbury’s crime map - high density zones literally glow
  • High density zones, provide more places to hide since neighbors don’t know neighbors
  • Rental communities have less sense of community - people don't get a chance to know each other as they are frequently moving in and out of the area -making it impossible to tell of a car is 'out of place'
  • Rental communities have less vested interest to keep their areas upkept
  • More noise and overall disturbances with frequent people moving in and out the neighborhoods
  • Students will be frequently walking past this area as it is directly across from East Ridge High School, this is unsafe!
• Less sense of community for homeowners in the area, with over 100 new units planned to be built on this small plot of land.
• We have a plethora of unoccupied apartment and rental units in Woodbury, this is not a need for the community, and certainly not in this particular area
• Increased noise / noise complaints - driven by high density and rental communities
• Decreased property values - driven by; high crime, high density rental homes being nearby - a bait and switch vs when these people BOUGHT their homes
  • Particularly a bait and switch due to the fact that this parcel of land has been owned for several years and only now are they are openly sharing the building plans
• Increased congestion and traffic brought to our suburban neighborhoods
• Increased water consumption, +100 family units vs the expected 14- 20 family units that should have been built within this low-density zone. A scary thought with yet another City well went offline a few weeks due to contaminates - Not to mention our frequent water restrictions.

All that said, great work spreading the word about this project and please continue to do so!  This project affects so many of us, yet the city only notifies people living with 500 feet of the build site. QR code / flyer image attached to help spread the word and gather additional signatures.
