Urgent: Women could lose benefits in health care reform :)
We've feared all along that women and their reproductive health care could be the first to go when push comes to shove in health care reform.
That day has come, and we urgently need your help. As I write this, the Republican leadership on the Senate Finance Committee is demanding health care reform language that will take away access to women's comprehensive reproductive health services. We simply can't let that happen. Please, contact the Senate Finance Committee right now to let them know we won't stand for it.
This is a critical moment in the health care reform debate. At a time when our leaders should be focused on expanding health care coverage, they are talking about taking benefits away from women. The Republican leadership on the Senate Finance Committee is demanding a provision that will result in a drastic change to the benefits that many of us have now; and, of course, the hundreds of thousands of women who are not covered now will still be left out in the cold.
I am disappointed that there are still many legislators out there who discount women and their health care. They're making a huge mistake, not only to eliminate access to comprehensive reproductive health care, but to discount our ability - yours, mine, and thousands of other Planned Parenthood supporters - to speak as one voice on behalf of women and women's health care providers.
We need you to speak out now, james m. Please, take just a minute right now to let the Senate Finance Committee know that access to women's health care benefits can't be compromised. We don't have a minute to waste.
Thank you, today and always, for standing up for women, for each other, and for Planned Parenthood.
Cecile Richards, President
Planned Parenthood Federation of America
