Woman's Day Magazine: Retract a damaging article about the business practices of travel agents.
The Issue
Recently Woman's Day magazine posted an article titled " 10 Things Travel Agents Won't Tell You." In the article, the "journalist" made several derogatory statements about travel agents and our business practices. Statements such as “Agents untruthfully telling clients that they’ve sailed on a particular cruise ship because it’s more expensive or stayed at a certain pricier resort is common,” is blantantly false, and clearly has the potential to damage our reputations and income. The article also stated "They’re making major commission…
…and maybe even a bonus for booking your travel. This means they’re trying to influence your vacation decisions based on perks on offer at that particular time. “If the agent seems to be pushing a particular cruise line, resort or destination, there’s usually a reason: a higher commission, a contest for a cash bonus or even a prize if she sells that product." which would indicate that we make recommendations based on our own interests, rather than the best interests of our clients. Woman's Day seems to have gone out of their way to ruin the public's perception of our industry and create mistrust, and should be held accountable for their statements.
