Fix the traffic lights at the pelican crossing at Charvil

Fix the traffic lights at the pelican crossing at Charvil
The Issue
The traffic lights at the pelican crossing on the A4 at Charvil have been broken for the past few weeks. As anyone who regularly uses this crossing, or is familiar with it, you will know this is a regularly used crossing for pupils at The Piggott School especially, and other members of the community. You will also be aware that cars drive ridiculously fast down this section of road due to the change in speed limit from 40mph to 60mph just beyond the lights, without any regard to pedestrians waiting to cross. Without these traffic lights, there is no way of stopping these cars, and so pedestrians and cyclists must wait for a significant gap in the traffic. This is dangerous for both pedestrians and cyclists, and also other road users. As a pupil of the Piggott School, on my walk to and from school, I have seen multiple road accidents, some involving emergency services being called. No parent should have to face the issue of their child's safety on their journey to school due to Wokingham's negligence of ensuring that these traffic lights are in good working order.
Without these traffic lights functioning effectively, Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) is taking an enormous gamble with the lives of hundreds of children and I hope that with the signing of this petition, the council will recognise the importance of maintaining safety and resolve this problem as a matter of absolute urgency.
The person at WBC who should be responsible for maintaining the effective functioning of these traffic lights is Martin Heath, and he should feel a great deal of responsibility for the lives and safety of children crossing this perilously busy road during rush hour. Please make him aware of the incredible anxiety we feel in our community by emailing him to highlight this issue, so that both the broken traffic lights and the similarly broken TEMPORARY lights (that have been up for 3 weeks but have yet to function effectively) can be fixed as a matter of urgency. His email address is martin.heath@wokingham.gov.uk
