Two Weeks to Save Rock Ferry Library!

The Issue

Tory cuts imposed on Wirral Borough Council have seen a proposal to CLOSE Rock Ferry Library.

£230m has been slashed from council budgets by the Tory government since 2010 with a further £27m going this year, leaving sites such as Rock Ferry library facing the axe.

More than 100 public libraries close every year due to Tory cuts

Rock Ferry Labour Party strongly oppose these cruel Tory closures - as ever these measures hit hardest the people who rely upon these services the most. Experts say the cuts are hitting the poor hardest as libraries cater for young parents, the old and jobless who cannot afford books.

For some people Rock Ferry library is the only place people can access what many people take for granted. Losing the library is not just about losing books and internet access, it's about losing one of the few remaining community spaces we have in the ward.

Rock Ferry Labour say NO to this campaign of vandalism against our culture and communities led by the Tory government.

The Institute of Education found that children who read for pleasure make significantly more progress in maths and English compared to those who do not read – but the ability to participate in reading outside school is limited for those without disposal income to spend on books. This is a key factor in disparities in educational outcomes: research has found that children who own books are six times more likely to read above the expected level for their age, and with over 380,000 children in the UK not owning books, closures of public libraries are reinforcing the divide.

Your Labour councillors we be arguing strongly to keep Rock Ferry library open, please support them by signing this petition.
