Save Wallasey Village Library

Save Wallasey Village Library
The Issue
Under proposals set out by Wirral Council, as part of budget cuts in the local area, Wallasey Village Library is under threat.
Libraries have always provided a safe, quiet space for people to find, read and borrow books. This is especially vital for pre-school children and also for school aged children and young people who may have no suitable place at home to undertake homework tasks.
Now libraries also provide access to the internet for those who would otherwise have none. People can also find help there to fill in online forms, access council service or improve their online research – all vital these days.
Libraries also provide a useful information point for local news and events.
Before Covid, Wallasey Village library provided all the above as well as being a community hub where baby & toddler sessions, teas and get togethers for older residents, yoga, mindfulness sessions and talks were all available.
There is an argument that usage has decreased since it reopened after the lockdowns but that is not due to lack of demand. People have remained cautious about going into public buildings and the opening hours have been reduced and some books and equipment removed. In addition, it has not been possible to restart the community sessions yet either.
Please help us campaign to keep this important space & show the council how utilised it can be if given the opportunity to be accessed. It’s everyone's right to have a library and others may not be accessible to members of the community who struggle to travel.
