Wipe for Wildlife
The issue
What is Wipe for Wildlife?
Wipe for Wildlife is a campaign by zoos Victoria to help save wildlife by encouraging people to switch to wildlife friendly toilet paper, such as recycled toilet paper.
Hundreds of thousands of trees are cut down to make toilet paper every year, and that is just in Australia!
Recycled toilet paper is manufactured from 100% post-consumer waste, such as textbooks and office paper. Using recycled paper means fewer trees are cut down, leaving them in the ground to keep our air clean, provide homes for animals and protect soil from erosion. Choosing recycled toilet paper also saves energy, since the production of paper and cardboard products made from recycled paper uses 50% less energy and 90% less water when making them from raw materials. There are now many improved recycled toilet paper products on the market. If you have not tried recycled toilet paper, you might be surprised how similar it is to regular toilet paper. Only 1.3% of sales of all toilet paper packs of 12 rolls or more were made from recycled paper since January.
All trees have ecological value, they provide habitat for wildlife, absorb carbon, protect soil from erosion and keep the air clean and purified. Trees do NOT deserve to be cut down and used once to end up in our bathrooms and flushed down to never be used again.
So take action, make your home, school or workplace a Wipe for Wildlife zone. It’s easy and no one will notice, exept for the wildlife that depend on trees to survive. Sign my petition to join over 275,000 people who have committed to switch to toilet paper made from recycled toilet paper today!
