Dance has been a very controversial topic ever since I can remember, but as dancers we are over it. Dance is in fact a sport. Dance is also an art form. It is both. The definition of a sport is “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment” which is exactly what we do as dancers. We train hard everyday with blood, sweat, and tears and we deserve the same recognition as other sports. If you have not heard the news about the LSU Tiger Girls then you need to check it out. As dancers we get put down for not participating in a “real” sport but in reality we work just as hard or even put in more effort than some sports teams. As times are changing this needs to be a priority for people to understand how hard dancers work everyday to deserve the awards they earn.
