The Issue

Windsor Locks High School has long been a pillar in our community, fostering both academic and athletic excellence. With numerous successful sports programs, our school stands out as a beacon of student achievement and teamwork. However, there is a growing interest among students for a boys volleyball team, yet the lack of such a program limits opportunities for young athletes.

The introduction of a boys volleyball team at Windsor Locks High School would not only promote physical fitness and teamwork but also offer students a chance to develop new skills and compete in a sport that is rapidly gaining popularity across the United States. Volleyball, being an inclusive and strategic sport, can significantly enhance the high school experience for many students, spurring interest in athletics and potentially leading to increased college scholarship opportunities.

Statistics from the National Federation of State High School Associations show that boys volleyball is one of the fastest-growing sports in high schools. In fact, there was a 15% increase in participation over the past five years. Our neighboring towns have established boys volleyball programs and have witnessed increased student engagement and school spirit as a result.

We propose a plan to start a boys volleyball team by the spring of 2026. This allows ample time to secure funding for necessary equipment, recruit a qualified coaching staff, and ensure proper facilities are available. We believe that with the community's support, we can achieve these goals and create a sustainable program that aligns with other successful athletic initiatives our school offers.

By signing this petition, you show support for expanding opportunities for students at Windsor Locks High School and embracing the benefits that a boys volleyball team can bring to our school and community. Let's work together to give our students more chances to excel and foster a stronger sense of community spirit. Sign today to make a difference!
