Loss of Wildlife Habitat
Loss of Wildlife Habitat

Wiltshire Council is planning to build one super school on a pristine greenfield site. Rowdeford School has for many years provided excellent facilities for special needs children in a small friendly environment. Now the plans are to increase numbers to upwards of 400 children in an area rich in wildlife. We are concerned about the loss of habitat and many species that currently live and pass through the site. Badgers, roe deer, muntjaks, foxes, buzzards, kites, owls, rare Beckstein bats & a variety of other species. Although there are currently 3 special schools serving North Wiltshire, they ultimately plan to close 2 schools in Trowbridge and Chippenham and move all of the children from the other schools to this one supersite. Although the council will deny this, we understand this to be their ultimate goal. We believe that this is misguided at a time when we are all trying to decrease our carbon footprint. As the children will be required to travel further to get to school; this will increase the number of taxis taking children to and from school so consequently increased traffic and pollution in this rural area.
