Wilson County Schools: Opposition of Building Schools on Double Log Cabin
The Issue
We, the undersigned, qualified voters of the Wilson County School System, oppose the purchase of 171 acres and the building of a three-school campus at the location on Double Log Cabin Road and Gwynn Lane in the Laguardo area of Lebanon, Tennessee.
There three parcels of land with an additional parcel as the entrance to the property:
1. 1520 Double Log Cabin - Parcel 034 010.00
2. Parcel 034 009.02
3. 1690 Double Log Cabin - Parcel 034 009.08
4. Additional parcel as entrance: 849 Gwynn Lane - Parcel 033 018.00
We oppose this proposal for the following reasons:
· The infrastructure of Double Log Cabin Road, specifically on the southeast side, would be a danger to not only drivers but also property owners. Massive expansion to Double Log Cabin, Gwynn Lane and Smith Road in order to accommodate the numerous vehicles that would travel them each day during the school year. With three points of egress, the load of traffic in this community would result in congestion and massive inconvenience twice a day for nine months of the year. The county would have to spend tens of millions of dollars just to upgrade the infrastructure on roadways that lead to this parcel, and we do not feel this is best stewardship of the resources of taxpayers just to make a deal work on this proposed parcel.
· Chronic water/flooding issues already known to be caused on the southeast section of Double Log Cabin.
· Many purchased land and built houses in the area because of the quiet and peaceful environment. The noise from the schools as well as the light pollution will cause the charm and natural beauty of this area to be lost.
